Louka Vanderbruggen is a young Belgian player playing in the Netherlands, he is also part of our national U17 Futures team. He had a thunderous first half of the season with 9 goals and 9 assists in 19 games with De Graafschap. With the national team he is the author of 1 goal and 1 assist in 2 games.

Which clubs have you been through since you started playing football until today?

As a very young player, I played for KVV Coxyde, before joining Cercle Brugge. I then signed for Club Brugge and enjoyed some very good times. I now represent De Graafschap in the Netherlands – a fantastic opportunity to test myself in the Dutch league.

What positions can you play and which one do you prefer to play in?

I mostly play 11 (LW) and also 10. My strengths are in advanced positions, with the opportunity to be creative

Who is your favorite Belgian player?

Eden Hazard. He had amazing technical attributes, played beautiful football and could change the match in a moment

Is there a player who is your example?

Neymar. For similar reasons to Hazard. He does incredible things with the ball, is very technical and creative. A player of this profile inspires me every day to play football

How would you describe your playstyle?

Haha I am sure that my last few answers give you a clue! I use my technical qualities and creativity to make a big attacking contribution to the team from the 11 & 10 positions. I love to play fluid football, create and score goals. I have learned a lot tactically since my move to Dutch football and also take my defensive responsibilities seriously.

You left Club Brugge last season for De Graafschap, why did you choose this club?

I was excited by the opportunity to develop my career in the Netherlands. Myself, my family and agent decided that the technical qualities and beautiful style of the Dutch league would be great fit for me. De Graafschap has some Eredivisie history and  a great record of academy players professing to the 1st team. The local community and fan base is also amazing. I have been made to feel very welcome.

You met many young people in Brugge, who impressed you the most?

Kaye Furo impressed me with his ability and physical impact. A fantastic young player, who I wish the best and everyone at Club Brugge

You've been at the club for a little over 6 months, how is your integration going?

I believe I have integrated well at De Graafschap. With my creative qualities, I feel that I add a lot to the team and that the season has been positive so far. We have done well in the league and also enjoyed a good journey in the Dutch Cup, including a win against Feyenoord.

You have impressive statistics after this first half of the season in the league and with the national team. Did you expect to perform so well?

I am happy to have scored and created a lot of goals so far this season for my club.  But of course, it is important to remember that the team’s result is most important. For the National Team, it is always an honour to be selected and I am pleased to have recorded goals and assists for the Red Devils this season.

What are your personal goals in 2024?

My goal for 2024 is to continue working hard to help De Graafschap win every match possible. I hope to score and create lots more goals and continue testing myself at the highest possible level for club and national team.

What is the trophy you absolutely want to win in the future?

Every young player dreams of winning the World Cup with their National Team. With God’s will, I hope to win as many trophies as possible with club and country.
